North Myrtle Beach council votes to ban smoking, e-cigarettes on public beaches

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — Smoking could soon be banned across public beaches in North Myrtle Beach after the council gave final approval to an amendment of its Health and Sanitation ordinance.

Staff recommendations within the amendment suggest the change is aimed at improving conditions along the shoreline and reducing cigarette-related litter and impacts.

The amendment would add the public beach to the list of areas where smoking is prohibited. It also creates a standalone provision that explicitly bans smoking on the public beach, including the use of e-cigarettes, to make the rule clearer and easier to understand…
