(KRON) — A 40-year-old man accused of assaulting his girlfriend and stealing her phone when she tried to call police was taken into custody Monday after an hours-long standoff in the South Bay, according to authorities.
The alleged domestic violence incident occurred Sunday night in Campbell when the suspect, identified as Andre Abeyta, physically struck his girlfriend and caused visible injuries to her face, the Campbell Police Department said. Abeyta then fled the area with the victim’s phone.

Abeyta is known to local authorities, police said, due to an “extensive criminal history, including multiple prior arrests involving firearm possession, drug possession, and theft-related offenses.”
Law enforcement searching for Abeyta located him at 6:43 a.m. Monday in the White Oaks neighborhood, police said. He was found inside a vehicle that was partially covered with a tarp.
“A high-risk stop was initiated, and officers issued repeated commands for the suspect to exit the vehicle,” Campbell PD wrote. “The suspect failed to comply and attempted to further conceal himself inside the vehicle, resulting in a barricaded situation.”…
