Attorney raises concerns over SPD’s use of force during arrest, mayor reacts

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A Savannah Police Department (SPD) officer is facing criticism over whether his use of force was appropriate during a March 20 encounter in which a woman says she was injured, according to her attorney.

NiQuaysia Chisholm’s attorney, Roland Mumford of Mumford Law, said the incident happened while Chisholm was out celebrating her birthday when a situation escalated involving her friend, who was being arrested for public intoxication. He said she and her sister were attempting to de-escalate the encounter.

“This is a grown man who beat this lady and threw her down on the ground. Two hands on her, threw her down to the ground,” Mumford said…
