In split vote, Charlottesville councilors allow seven-story development in Fifeville to move forward

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Charlottesville City Council voted Monday night to allow a developer to move forward with plans to build a seven-story student housing development in the Fifeville neighborhood.

The 3-2 decision reverses and overturns city staff’s December decision to deny a certificate of appropriateness, and also comes after several months of pushback from those who live nearby.

Mayor Juandiego Wade, Vice Mayor Natalie Oschrin, and Councilor Lloyd Snook voted to approve the construction of a seven-story development at the intersection of 7th and Delevan Streets, behind the railroad tracks.
