$4.6M mistake threatens swath of services in Cottage Grove

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. — The City of Cottage Grove says significant accounting errors on the city’s part led to its $4.6 million deficit for its upcoming budget.

Like many cities across Oregon, Cottage Grove is grappling with a proposed budget chock full of cuts ahead of adopting it for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, but Cottage Grove City Manager Mike Sauerwein admits much of those budget woes stem from the city improperly using financial management software.
