University of Michigan warns of legal action over Los Alamos project pause

ANN ARBOR, MI – The University of Michigan has threatened legal action over a yearlong utility moratorium that could delay the planned Los Alamos National Laboratory and UM supercomputing site in Ypsilanti Township.

The Ypsilanti Community Utility Authority, which would provide water to the Los Alamos site, voted April 22 on a yearlong moratorium on water and sewer service for data centers and AI computing facilities.

A day before, a UM attorney sent a letter to YCUA and Ypsilanti officials. The email, obtained by MLive, urged officials to reject the moratorium and warned the university could “pursue all rights and claims for necessary relief” if the moratorium passed…
