Woman plunders elderly Lincoln woman’s bank account to gamble, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A woman has been accused of stealing over $300,000 from an elderly woman’s bank account to support her gambling.

Information forwarded to the Lincoln Police Department showed that a 97-year-old woman had an estimated outstanding balance of $95,000 owed to an assisted living facility for her care.

According to LPD, the woman was diagnosed with a type of dementia in 2021. In 2018, Sheri Buskirk, 66, was assigned the woman’s financial power of attorney, records show.

According to the arrest affidavit, financial records for the woman showed suspicious activity between Jan. 1, 2021, and March 1, 2026. Those included:

  • 827 ATM withdrawals totaling $107,060
  • 363 miscellaneous charges totaling $18,642.25
  • 336 cash/check withdrawals totaling $162,926.76
  • 165 checks payable to “Cash” totaling $37,750
  • 41 checks addressed to Buskirk totaling $20,145
  • 18 checks payable to miscellaneous businesses and individuals totaling $3,064.53

The total of transactions between 2021 and 2026 is $349,588.54, police said…
