Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014 locomotive to make Nebraska stops on coast-to-coast tour

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014 will travel across Nebraska later this month as part of its coast-to-coast tour to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.

The world’s largest operating steam locomotive will make seven whistle-stops in Nebraska, ending with an all-day public display event in Omaha on May 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT at 9th and Leavenworth Streets. Admission is free.

Big Boy launched its 2026 coast-to-coast tour on April 10 from downtown Sacramento near historic Milepost 0, the site where Central Pacific Railroad began construction on the nation’s first transcontinental railroad in 1863. Union Pacific Railroad held its own groundbreaking ceremony about a year later in Omaha.
