Mom charged: Toddler hospitalized with fentanyl exposure

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman has been charged with child abuse and endangerment months after her three-year-old daughter was admitted to the hospital in respiratory distress for alleged exposure to fentanyl in her Whitehaven home.

Deja Cross, 28, was also charged with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and tampering with evidence following a search of her residence on Gill Road in late February.

MPD said Drug Task Force Agents executed a state narcotic search warrant after a month-long trafficking investigation involving the activities taking place at the house.

Agents said the observed evidence was consistent with the destruction and disposal of narcotics in the toilet, including burnt aluminum foil commonly used to ingest narcotics, a $1 bill, and a white substance that later tested presumptive positive for fentanyl…
