SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – Spokane-based efforts to reduce “forever chemicals” in the Spokane River watershed received grants totaling $595,000 from the Washington Department of Ecology.
The Department partnered with the grant recipients – Spokane County, City of Spokane and Eastern Washington University – as a part of its larger goal to “reduce toxins and protect the health of the river through technical assistance, monitoring and research, and education and outreach.
The Spokane River, which runs from Lake Coeur d’Alene and flows west through Washington, feeds several cities along the way and powers seven hydroelectric dams.
