Evansville Police find 2 sick adults covered in feces; caregiver arrested

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – An Evansville woman was arrested and charged with neglect after authorities say two family members in her care were left covered in feces in an apartment for at least several days.

According to an affidavit, authorities were dispatched to the 8100 block of Lincoln Avenue on May 1 after an apartment manager called to report that a man was found inside the building covered in feces and appearing unwell. At the scene, officers found an elderly man who appeared to be frail and wearing soiled clothes. Cat feces was visible on the floor and on the pillow where the elderly man had been laying.

Two people accused of neglect of a dependent

The man told authorities he was staying in the apartment with his son, who he described as developmentally delayed and medically frail. Officers say they found the man’s son laying down on a mattress covered in feces. An affidavit said the son appeared to not be alert or able to care for himself.

Investigators determined that Kathryn Payton, the elderly man’s daughter, was the caregiver for both men…
