Omni Hut customer remembers iconic Polynesian cuisine and preserves relics

SMYRNA, Tenn. (WKRN) — Even though Tennessee is a landlocked state, for years, people in Smyrna didn’t have to travel far to get a taste of Polynesian cuisine.

The beloved restaurant — Omni Hut — opened for nearly 60 years and devastated customers when it closed a few years ago due to staffing shortages. However, many regulars have held on to memorabilia and preserved the staple in their own way.

“We are certainly going to miss this place,” one Omni Hut customer told News 2 in 2018. “I wish that we could keep it open.”
