Providence man accused of video voyeurism at URI pleads no contest

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPR) — The Providence man accused of recording a University of Rhode Island student while she was showering in a dormitory last year has changed his plea.

James Paquette, 30, originally pleaded not guilty to a felony video voyeurism charge. According to court records, he pleaded no contest during a disposition hearing Thursday.

In May 2025, a URI freshman called police after she noticed someone in the shower next to her was wearing sneakers and didn’t have the water running. When the victim looked up, she reported seeing a cellphone.

The victim then confronted the suspect who reportedly apologized before running away…
