Derecho cleanup continues nearly six years later, resident voices concerns

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – It has been nearly six years since the derecho in August 2020 – and the city of Cedar Rapids is still cleaning up debris from the more than 600,000 downed trees.

Resident Steve Hennessy has lived near Bever Park since 2000. He said his grandchildren and neighborhood kids can no longer play in the area behind his backyard due to derecho debris.

“In ‘The Lion King,’ it says you don’t want to go to the elephant graveyard. This is kind of like the elephant graveyard,” he said…
