Des Moines police record 7 overdose deaths since beginning of April

DES MOINES, Iowa — Overdose deaths are surging in Des Moines, the police department said on Thursday.

The Des Moines Police Department has responded to seven overdose deaths since the beginning of April — nearly half as many as in the entirety of 2025. This calendar year, detectives have responded to nine overdose deaths in total.
