Charges dropped in 2022 shooting case due to missing witness

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Lafayette Parish District Attorney Donald Landry said prosecutors were forced to dismiss a 2022 attempted murder case against 28-year-old Julian Jacobs after the alleged victim could not be located to testify in court.

Jacobs is now facing new charges connected to the deadly townhouse fire on Barracks Street in Duson that claimed the life of a 9-year-old child.

According to court records, Jacobs was arrested in 2022 on charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property, and violation of a protective order. Investigators alleged Jacobs fired into a home while people were inside, creating what prosecutors described as a potentially deadly situation…
