Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office under federal investigation

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — The Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, the department announced Wednesday.

The DOJ said it’s opening the investigation into the office’s plea bargaining, charging decisions, sentencing policies and whether preferential treatment was given to illegal immigrants.

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon said this investigation into Steve Descano’s office will focus on whether “sweetheart deals for illegal immigrants charged with serious crimes” endangered the community.
