Quick actions by classmate, staff save 3 NKY students from choking in separate incidents

BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (WKRC) – Three Boone County School District students are alive after quick actions by a classmate and two school employees who performed the Heimlich maneuver during separate choking incidents.

The district said that last week, a student at Collins Elementary was choking when classmate Leon Jones immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver. Jones said his teacher, Andy Sherlock, taught the class how to do it, and Jones remembered the lesson.

Three weeks ago, cafeteria worker Darielle Hampton performed the Heimlich maneuver on a student who was choking during the lunch period at Ballyshannon Middle School.
