Judge allows search of Kristin Ramsey’s cellphone in Ashley Okland murder case

DALLAS COUNTY, Iowa– An official ruling has been made in the Kristin Ramsey murder trial regarding an issue that attorneys on both sides have debated over for weeks.

Ramsey’s legal team had filed a motion to quash a search warrant for her recent cell phone data, arguing there was privileged information on the device, such as sensitive communications with her attorney, medical records and private conversations with her husband.

Prosecutors asked the judge to deny the motion, emphasizing they were not seeking years of data, but rather only a 12-day window tied to the investigation, and that it would be unlikely that they would access information between Ramsey and her attorney. However, they argued that they should be able to see communications with her husband, as there are currently no broad protections for such information.
