PPS gives update on data breach, says Canvas system out ‘nationwide’

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — One day after Portland Public Schools said a data breach of their system may have compromised the personal information of students, Oregon’s largest school district is giving an update on the scope of the problem.

The Canvas online learning system that PPS uses is “currently unavailable nationwide,” according to an update the school district sent to parents on Thursday.

Instructure, the vendor for Canvas, has halted services to try and repair the damage done and respond to “a third-party hacking campaign,” PPS said…
