Man sentenced in violent Schenectady taxi kidnapping case

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — In 2024, a local cab driver survived what prosecutors called a terrifying kidnapping and robbery. On Friday, the man convicted of attacking her was in Schenectady County Court for sentencing.

On the day of the incident, it was just a normal night for the victim. She had just started working for Electric City Taxi Company and was excited to pick up this ride. But once James Parker and his girlfriend got in the vehicle, her excitement vanished.

“There was an altercation inside of the taxicab where there was negotiations back-and-forth. The defendant was not happy about the pricing, and then he pulled a knife on the victim. He demanded that she drive him and his girlfriend to Cobleskill,” said Schenectady County Assistant District Attorney Marlena Mareno.
