News conference held to discuss 2 cases connected to Shamar Elkins, Cedar Grove mass shooting

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Multiple agencies gathered Friday (May 8) to discuss two cases connected to the Cedar Grove mass shooting and Shamar Elkins.

U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana Zachary Keller, Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson, and other state and local law enforcement partners provided updates Friday morning in the two cases connected to Elkins: Charles Ford and Michael Mayence.

Ford was charged April 21 and indicted Thursday, May 7 for being a felon in possession of the gun Elkins used to commit the mass shooting on April 19 that left eight children dead and two women injured. He’s also accused of lying to ATF agents as they looked into how Elkins got the gun he used.

Officials also provided updates in the Mayence case. His home is the one Elkins fled to after the shooting. Mayence was charged April 25 and indicted May 7 for illegally possessing a gun while under a court order for domestic violence.
