The legendary Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 steam locomotive is scheduled to make stops or pass through several Route 66 towns in Illinois and Missouri in mid-July.
According to Big Boy’s schedule, it will pass through or stop at these Route 66 municipalities:
- July 18, depart at 8:15 a.m. from Bloomington, Illinois (no public access)
- July 18, arrive at 10:45 a.m. and depart at 11:15 a.m. at the Amtrak depot at Washington Street crossing in Springfield, Illinois
- July 18, arrive at 1 p.m. and depart at 1:30 p.m. at Center Street crossing in Girard, Illinois
- July 19, Big Boy on display from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Union Station in St. Louis
- July 20, depart at 9:30 a.m. from St. Louis (no public access)
- July 20, arrive at 12:30 p.m. and depart at 12:45 p.m. at First Street crossing in Pacific, Missouri
The stops are part of a massive 10-state tour to the East Coast to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
