Big Boy locomotive to make several stops in Route 66 towns in Illinois, Missouri in July

The legendary Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 steam locomotive is scheduled to make stops or pass through several Route 66 towns in Illinois and Missouri in mid-July.

According to Big Boy’s schedule, it will pass through or stop at these Route 66 municipalities:

  • July 18, depart at 8:15 a.m. from Bloomington, Illinois (no public access)
  • July 18, arrive at 10:45 a.m. and depart at 11:15 a.m. at the Amtrak depot at Washington Street crossing in Springfield, Illinois
  • July 18, arrive at 1 p.m. and depart at 1:30 p.m. at Center Street crossing in Girard, Illinois
  • July 19, Big Boy on display from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Union Station in St. Louis
  • July 20, depart at 9:30 a.m. from St. Louis (no public access)
  • July 20, arrive at 12:30 p.m. and depart at 12:45 p.m. at First Street crossing in Pacific, Missouri

The stops are part of a massive 10-state tour to the East Coast to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
