CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — More than 100 people had to be evacuated from an Amtrak train in Charlotte after smoke was reported in the cabin, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.
Around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, crews responded to a reported fire involving an Amtrak train near the Charlotte station on North Tryon Street. People onboard reported there was smoke filling the passenger cabin from the bottom of the train.

Crews were able to confirm smoke before it arrived at the station. Once it arrived, they started helping people off the train and moving them to a safe location inside the station, officials said.
Firefighters found one train car with its brakes on fire. The fire was contained to the brake pads and did not extend to the train itself. According to the conductor, there were 124 passengers onboard at the time of the incident.
