Newton is home to two recipients of the 2026 Main Street Iowa Development Awards, which were presented Thursday night in West Des Moines, during a celebration of Main Street Iowa’s 40th anniversary.
Gray Moon Public Market received a Development Award in the Building Rehabilitation category for communities over 5,000 in population, recognizing the project’s contribution to Newton’s downtown revitalization. Development Specialist Craig Armstrong received a Leadership Award for his significant volunteer contributions to Newton Main Street. In all, Main Street Iowa handed out eighteen Development Awards and 45 individual Leadership Awards. The recognition is from the Iowa Economic Development Authority, which administers the Main Street Iowa Program.
