Group bringing chamber music to America’s loneliest highway

Stretching across central Nevada, through an arid zone of mountains and valleys, is U.S. Highway 50, popularly known as the loneliest road in America. Where others see desolation, a local nonprofit sees artistic opportunity and the building blocks of community.

“Our tag line is ‘Good music in good spaces,’” said Carson City artist Paula Saponaro, who serves as board secretary for Toiyabe Chamber Music Society. “It’s kind of what we do. We take the elite sense out of it and make it comfortable, intimate.”

As part of their Loneliest Road Chamber Music Project, TCMS is presenting two concerts on the western end of Highway 50. The Berkelium String Quartet will be playing 7:30 p.m. May 16 at the Fallon Theatre (71 S. Maine St.) and at 2 p.m. May 17 in the ballroom of the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City…
