MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – Several firearms were stolen from the Historic Carson House in McDowell County this week.
The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office said the following firearms were stolen:
- Percussion rifle with a curly maple stock from the Civil War era
- 12-gauge double-barrel shotgun manufactured by Russell Arms Co. in Belgium (approximately 37.5 inches in length with a 9-inch stock)
- 16-gauge rifle dated 1862, missing the forward stock band and ramrod, with the initials “HB” carved into the side
- U.S. Army rifle manufactured in 1896 by Springfield Armory (Serial #24574), approximately 28.5 inches in length with a 16-inch barrel
- 12-gauge single-barrel shotgun from the 1800s, approximately 49 inches in length
The sheriff’s office said several of the firearms date back to, and were used in, the American Civil War and the Spanish-American War eras.
