Belmont man dies while snorkeling off Florida Keys

KEY WEST, Fla. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man from Belmont, North Carolina, has passed away while snorkeling in the Florida Keys on Mother’s Day, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say 56-year-old Benjamin Lee Millspaw was pulled from the water unconscious around noon on Sunday, May 10, near Cottrell Key off Key West.

Millspaw was pronounced dead at Lower Keys Medical Center on Stock Island. He was with a commercial snorkel company at the time of the incident, according to authorities…
