More than a week later, owners of Priceville Foodland working to get doors open, customers back inside

PRICEVILLE, Ala. — The smell of smoke still hangs in the air at Priceville Foodland, which has been shuttered for more than a week after a fire broke out in the store’s produce section May 2.

The closure has displaced hundreds of shoppers who now must travel to the nearest city for groceries and mail. The store also houses Priceville’s only post office, compounding the disruption for residents across the area.

Owners said they plan to rebuild and reopen as soon as possible, and they have been updating the community through Facebook, anticipating a reopening within the next week. However, nearby business owners caution that cleaning smoke damage and restocking shelves is likely a lengthy process…
