UT student wounded in Austin mass shooting walks across graduation stage

AUSTIN, Texas — Two months after a mass shooting on Austin’s Sixth Street left him fighting for his life, a University of Texas student walked across the graduation stage Saturday.

Rodolfo “Rudy” Garza, became the first in his family to earn a college degree when he received his mechanical engineering diploma this weekend, according to KABB. He did not stay in his wheelchair when his name was called.

Wearing a specialized protective helmet designed to resemble a graduation cap, Garza stood from his wheelchair and walked across the stage on his own as the crowd erupted in applause…
