Overnight storms bring powerful winds, widespread outages across Coastal Bend

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Severe storms swept through the Coastal Bend overnight, waking many residents around 2 a.m. as strong winds and heavy rain moved across the region.

According to Chief Meteorologist Carly Smith, some of the strongest wind gusts were recorded near NAS Corpus Christi, where winds reached 84 miles per hour — approaching hurricane-force strength.

Other reported peak wind gusts included:

  • 63 mph in Rockport
  • 63 mph in Port Aransas
  • 53 mph in Corpus Christi
  • 51 mph in Beeville
  • 48 mph in Alice

Communities across the region reported downed tree limbs, debris and scattered damage as the storm system moved through South Texas.
