Amtrak conductor faces gators after train crash in Houston

After an Amtrak train collided with a car in northeast Harris County Sunday night, the conductor reportedly encountered a startling obstacle while trying to help the victims: a group of alligators lurking near the wreckage.

An Amtrak train struck a passenger vehicle between W. Lake Houston and E. Sam Houston parkways Sunday in what the Harris County Pct. 3 Constable Sherman Eagleton described as a “major crash.”

Law enforcement shared photos from the scene showing first responders gathered around a mangled car after the crash. The driver reportedly disregarded the crossing arms in a down position and was struck by the train, moving at about 60 miles per hour.

Sheldon Community Fire & Rescue posted to Facebook that the train conductor had attempted to assist after the accident but was confronted by at least four alligators in the water…
