SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Monday, Utah! Mother Nature brought beautiful weather for Mother’s Day weekend, but now it’s really turning up the heat.
Weather today: Record heat
Both today and tomorrow’s temperatures will be in record high territory across northern Utah and come within a few degrees of records in the south. Overall, temperatures will soar about 15-25 degrees above seasonal norms.
That translates to highs in the upper 80s to low 90s for most of the state, while hot spots down south reach the upper 90s, with a good chance of triple digits in St. Geroge. If you want to escape the heat, mountain valleys should be in the low to mid 80s.

Weather tomorrow: More heat
Tuesday will be similar with mostly sunny skies and dry weather, but a couple degrees warmer.
First 90 & 100 degree days 3 weeks ahead of average
This will be the warmest weather of the season. Salt Lake City will likely hit both their first 85° and first 90° days, St. George is slated to hit their first 100° day of the year. Typically, Salt Lake City hits 90° for the first time around June 1, which is also around the time St. George hits their first 100° day on average. So, we are about 3 weeks ahead of schedule for temperatures like these.
Fire risk concerns
The combination of low relative humidity and heat could elevate the fire risk for parts of the state. The threat isn’t widespread, but it’s something to keep in mind while you’re outdoors so we don’t ignite any new fires.
Looking ahead: Slight disturbance drops temps
We do have a slight disturbance passing through on Wednesday that will help with the dry air, but it could lead to other fire concerns. It’ll still be fairly dry on valley floors, so it looks like precipitation will evaporate before reaching the ground for a large chunk of the state.
The erratic gusty outflow winds could keep the fire threat elevated. While valleys should stay dry, mountainous regions could get a few isolated showers and thunderstorms, so keep your eyes to the skies.
Apart from the chance of mountain thunderstorms, we’re looking at partly cloudy skies with temperatures still in the upper 80s to low 90s.
On Thursday and into the weekend, we see temperatures take a fall into the 70s and low 80s for most of the state, and upper 80s to low 90s for lower Washington County…
