MINNEAPOLIS — Neighbors in Northeast Minneapolis are rallying to save a crumbling historic house from demolition. The Cook House, built in the late 1880s by mason John L. Cook, has stood near the corner of 18th Avenue and Tyler Street Northeast for 137 years.
“I’ve always paid attention to the house because it’s such an icon,” said longtime northeast Minneapolis resident Elizabeth Richardson. “The first time I ever came to Northeast, I noticed it and thought, ‘What a shame that it’s in this state of disrepair.'”
The city of Minneapolis designated the house a historic landmark in 2021. Its brick construction and Queen Anne architectural details are rare, and its history of housing immigrants in the 1900s makes it a piece of local history worth saving, Richardson said…
