Madison Watkins, a standout talent from American Idol, has announced her engagement to Elisha Qalo in a touching and intimate ceremony. The Christian pop singer shared the special story behind the proposal, which beautifully echoed a significant moment from early in their relationship.

Madison, 31, recounted that shortly after they began dating, she took Eli to a serene horse farm with a pond in Franklin, Tennessee-a place she often visited to pray for her future husband. “A year and a half later, he surprised me by proposing on the very dock of that pond,” she said.

The moment was made even more memorable as it coincided with her birthday celebrations, with friends having flown in the night before. “I was completely shocked!

It was so heartfelt and beautiful,” Madison added.

Since Eli’s romantic proposal six months ago, the couple has been busy planning their wedding. “Things are moving quickly! Planning a wedding is definitely not for the faint of heart,” Madison admitted.

Eli, originally from Oahu, has dedicated the past decade to serving in the U.S. Army, including a recent nine-month deployment overseas.

He recently earned a promotion to Sergeant. Madison noted that Eli is naturally a very private person, especially given his military role requiring discretion on missions, but their relationship has brought new experiences for him as well.

The couple’s love story began on the dance floor, fitting for Madison’s dynamic and energetic personality. She first gained national attention as a top 12 finalist on American Idol in 2021. Since then, Madison has launched a successful music career, releasing her debut EP, Letting Go, in 2025, and following up with the popular single “God You Are” in April 2026, which became a viral sensation on TikTok.

Her debut album, produced in Stockholm and London with the renowned Frequency-known for work with Rihanna and Tate McRae-blends classic soul and R&B influences. Another of her tracks, “Curls,” has amassed over 1.5 billion plays.

Despite her rising fame and success, Madison has been candid about facing personal challenges, including mental health struggles and an abusive relationship. Songwriting has served as a powerful outlet for her healing process.

Though her public profile might seem daunting for a partner, Madison praises Eli’s grace and humility in handling life in the spotlight. “He truly grounds me and prefers a more private life, which balances well with my career here in Tennessee,” she shared.

Honoring Eli’s Hawaiian roots, Madison revealed that Hawaiian food and music will be essential elements of their wedding celebration, promising a meaningful blend of their backgrounds as they embark on this new chapter together.
