The Lexington Chamber and Visitor Center awarded Pelion student Jeffrey Mason Williams a $5,000 scholarship during the May 12 Business Over Breakfast event.
The scholarship is named for the late Doris Burkett, who was Executive Director of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce from 1982 to 1994 and was a graduate of Gilbert High School. A scholarship fund was established in her memory by her family and has been administered by the Lexington Chamber & Visitors Center since 1995.
Since 1995, Doris Burkett Scholarship is given to one Lexington School District One student who will be attending either a four-year college, university, or technical college. This scholarship places emphasis on moral integrity and the potential of the individual to become a productive citizen…
