The Decatur Police Department is launching a new traffic safety initiative to reduce speeding and dangerous driving across the city.
“Operation Slow and Steady” starts Friday, according to Chief Torry Mack. The city has recorded 865 traffic accidents so far this year, plus 239 private property accidents, which breaks down to 61 accidents a week.
“Although Decatur is quite compact, we are intersected by several major thoroughfares that carry high volumes of traffic each day,” Mack said. “Unfortunately, many drivers are traveling these roadways at excessive speeds, creating dangerous conditions for motorists, pedestrians, and our community as a whole.”…
