Substitute teacher removed from Austin High after weapon detection finds firearm

DECATUR, Ala. — A substitute teacher was removed from Austin High School on Tuesday after the school’s weapon detection system was triggered and a firearm was found during a search of the substitute’s belongings.

According to Decatur City Schools, the alert happened just before the start of the school day when the substitute walked through the detection system.

School officials said a handgun was discovered after the substitute’s bag was searched…
