WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Warwick Mayor Frank Picozzi has proposed a $393 million budget for the new fiscal year, as city leaders grapple with rising costs for schools and health benefits.
Picozzi submitted the 2026-27 budget plan to the City Council on May 7. The overall tax levy on residents and businesses would rise by 3.86%, slightly below the annual cap of 4% under state law, to fund a nearly $13 million spending increase.
In a letter to the council, Picozzi wrote that while Warwick “is in excellent financial condition,” the city’s challenges include debt payments for school construction, higher-than-expected increases for health insurance, and the cost of raises for union workers…
