2 officers hospitalized after pursuit ends in crash in South Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Two Metro police officers were reportedly taken to the hospital overnight after a pursuit ended with a crash in South Nashville.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, shortly after midnight Wednesday, officers were watching a white Cadillac sedan at a 7-Eleven gas station on Harding Place, and said the driver appeared to be engaged in “suspected narcotics activity.” Court documents described the driver being involved in what appeared to be a hand-to-hand drug deal.

The officers then followed the car–which they said appeared to have no license plate–onto I-24 and into South Nashville, where it stopped in a parking lot near Murfreesboro Pike and Spence Lane.

While waiting for backup, the officers reportedly attempted a traffic stop on the Cadillac as the driver began to leave the lot, but the suspect fled toward the back of the property. Officials said the Cadillac then “deliberately” struck two police cars with officers inside, causing significant damage to both vehicles.

According to court documents, after the second police vehicle was hit, the suspects’ car became disabled. Officers reportedly held the woman– identified as Shadarran Pointer, 42–at gunpoint after the crashes, and she refused to exit the car. Once she was removed from the vehicle, she was placed under arrest and the vehicle searched.
