BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – A Burke County Sheriff’s Office employee is facing disciplinary actions after an off-duty arrest in Richmond County, earlier this month.
Richard Elim was arrested on Sunday, May 10, and charged with DUI, Distracted Driving, and Following too Closely.
The Sheriff’s Office states Elim violated agency policies regarding ‘criminal conduct and conduct unbecoming of an employee’.

Elim is now facing the following disciplinary actions:
- Removal from command staff responsibilities
- Demotion and reassignment within the Detention Center
- A reduction in pay consistent with the reassigned position
- Suspension of all county vehicle driving privileges for one year
- Placement under a last chance agreement, meaning any future policy violations orfailure to comply with agency standards may result in immediate termination
