Mayor fires entire police department following complaints tied to his wife – city council rushes to restore officers during a packed emergency meeting

A northwest Georgia town moved to reinstate its entire police department after the mayor abruptly dissolved the agency and terminated all of its officers following complaints connected to his wife, according to a FOX 5 Atlanta report by Denise Dillon.

Dillon reported from Cohutta, a small town in Whitfield County near the Tennessee line, where residents packed an emergency meeting after Mayor Ron Shinnick fired the town’s police force earlier in the week.

The meeting was called to discuss whether the officers should be reinstated and whether the city council should ask the mayor to resign. By the end of the night, Dillon reported, the officers had their jobs back, while Shinnick remained mayor, at least for now.
