Middletown man goes fishing, breaks state record for catch

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WDTN) — A Middletown man’s catch has officially broken a state record and been certified.

On April 1 near the Middletown Dam on the Great Miami River, Jesse Miller of Middletown caught a hybrid crappie weighing 4.27 pounds. The Ohio Division of Wildlife said the crappie measured 18.3 inches long with a girth of 16 inches.

Miller is said to have used the following to catch the fish:

  • Spinning rod spooled with six pound test monofilament line
  • A minnow below a bobber
