Stockton man released through compassionate release arrested on new weapons charges

SAN JOAQUIN, Calif. — A Stockton man who was released from prison through California’s compassionate release process after serving time in connection with a 2017 shooting targeting police officers has been arrested again on weapons-related charges, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Steven Rodriguez, 57, was arrested May 7 on charges including possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of a short-barreled rifle and unlawful possession of ammunition.
