Woman recounts relationships with Cranston murder suspect, victim

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The suspect accused of shooting and killing a man in Cranston before causing a deadly crash in Swansea returned to court Wednesday for a bail hearing.

Demitri Sousa, 28, of Seekonk, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, using a firearm while committing a crime of violence, and carrying a pistol without a license in connection with the death of 35-year-old Javon Lawson.

Investigators believe Sousa banged on the side door of Lawson’s Legion Way home and shot him several times after he opened the door. Police said the shooting likely stemmed from a dispute between the men over a “mutual female acquaintance.”…
