Started in October of 2025, Worcester Police travel the city with solid blue lights on on their cruisers. It’s called the Blue Light High Visibility directive. Began as a trial, Worcester Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Elise Miranda said the directive will be continuing. “The Chief found that most of the residents have come to really like the program. They have mentioned to him that they really like seeing the blue lights in their neighborhood so it’s more based not on numbers but on word of mouth to the Chief that the residents have appreciated seeing the blue lights. They really like seeing them in the neighborhood out and about, around the schools, around the areas that they consider to be any type of problem areas, or really just find it comforting in general that where they want to see the police officers now they’re seeing the police officers because of that blue lights.”
Sgt. Miranda added that motorists, while unsure of the program at it’s start, have gotten used to seeing the solid blue lights when driving. “Motorists seem to have adjusted pretty well to the policy. We do still have a little bit of a flicker with one of our older bars, one of the Valor V-shaped bars on the older model cruisers still tends to flicker that we haven’t been able to fix quite permanently yet, but we’re still working on it. Otherwise, motorists have really adjusted and again, they do seem to appreciate being able to really identify that there is a police presence very quickly and it seems to be working out pretty well.”…
