DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department says a man who suffered critical injuries in an April fire at Elsie Mason Manor in downtown Des Moines has died.
Sgt. Paul Parizek, Public Information Officer for the DMPD, said Dennis McNatt, 68, died despite receiving advanced care at University of Iowa Healthcare’s Burn Treatment Unit.

Police and Des Moines Fire Department personnel responded to a fire alarm on the 10th floor of the apartment building at 4300 Grand Avenue just after 3:00 a.m. on April 26. They discovered fire in McNatt’s apartment and extinguished the flames. Sgt. Parizek said that McNatt was found to have extensive burn injuries and was transported to a local hospital before being transported to University of Iowa Healthcare’s Burn Treatment Unit.
