New Orleans’ Municipal and Traffic Court kicks in $5 million from fees to help with city’s deficit

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – As New Orleans officials continue chipping away at the city’s budget deficit, the judges of Municipal and Traffic Court have lent a hand.

The city announced Wednesday (May 13) that the court has authorized a $5 million transfer from its judicial expense fund to the city’s coffers.

The fund, managed by the judges, is amassed by the collection of court costs and fees, and traditionally supports court operations. While the current balance of that fund was not disclosed, the judges agreed to transfer $5 million to the city’s cash management fund…
