ALBANY — An ongoing FBI investigation into a gambling enterprise allegedly tied to a family that has operated multiple barber shops in the Capital Region and South Florida has expanded into additional states and is also focusing on Costa Rica websites that function as online sportsbooks and casinos that cater to agents and bookies, according to sources familiar with the matter.
One of the websites, Ace23, which is allegedly controlled by a man who lives in South Florida, is a focus of the investigation, the sources said. Two years ago, the website was issued a cease-and-desist letter by the Michigan Gaming Control Board, which said at the time it “takes illegal gambling operations seriously.”
The Michigan gaming board said in its letter that Ace23 purported to be part of the “Ace Gaming Network,” which claims on their website to be licensed in Canada and Costa Rica. The website was allegedly not authorized to operate in Michigan…
