SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Schenectady Police Department’s Detective Division is investigating a phone scam involving the use of the department’s phone number and the name of an active Schenectady police officer. A resident reported the scam to authorities on Wednesday afternoon.
The Schenectady Police Department said the resident reported that on May 4 they received a phone call from an individual who identified herself as a member of the department. The caller told the resident that they had an active warrant and a detective would be calling back.
A short time later, the resident received another call, this time from an individual who identified himself by name as an active member of the Schenectady Police Department’s Detective Division. The resident was then given detailed instructions on how to “post bond” by mailing cash…
